Tradition of Excellence Stearns & Foster stands alone as the oldest and most successful manufacturer of luxury bedding in America. More than 158 years ago, George Stearns and Seth Foster opened their first factory outside of Cincinnati in Lockland, Ohio. The young company began by making cotton felt for mattresses and other products, eventually developing their own line of mattresses. It was here that the traditions of beauty and fine craftsmanship began.
Design Leadership Our distinctive mattresses have always been renowned for their elegance and ceaseless attention to detail. In the early 1900s Stearns & Foster took an unprecedented step for a bedding manufacturer: it brought in renowned stylists, artists and designers, such as Ben Nash and Ethel Parsons, to staff a newly formed design committee. They began incorporating influences from 18th century damasks, Wedgwood pottery, and other classical and romantic elements into their designs.
Today, Stearns & Foster continues to rely on history for design guidance. We use motifs and classic design elements in art and architecture to inspire the look of our luxury fabrics.
